If your DNS traffic is in the clear, I can pretty much determine what sites you are visiting, simply by passively sniffing your queries. If you really don't think that is a threat, you're foolish. Also I would like to see proof regarding Chrome "forcing" itself to 8.8.8.8 - I have never seen that. I run Chrome on Linux, Mac, and Windows.
