Thanks for the feedback. I have significantly updated the blog's design pursuant to your feedback. What do you think now, how should I adjust?

  The glare is greatly reduced but there still isn't clear delineation of the body as separate from the header and side bar. I tend to like color-blocking those out into visually separate entities. (That's actually basically the way HN is done.) Some folks have tracking issues and if the main body is not reasonably distinct from the other areas, their eyes wander and they can't read very fluently.
