Aren't we only viewed as Satan because of our support for Israel? If we stopped our support for Israel, then OUR interests would be elevated over Israel's, which would be good for us but bad for Israel.
They really don't serve us that well for be our so-called "Greatest Ally."
You can't just hide behind "that's antisemitism" in all cases of analysis of Israel's influence in geopolitics and specifically in U.S politics ..it's not being intellectually honest
- devmunchies 7y agoThats a good point. If we weren't allied with Israel and didn't pick sides in the middle east, would we even need allies over there?
- flyinglizard 7y agoJust extend this logic to the Cold War and WWII. Why would America ever choose sides, right? Just let the Nazis take over Europe and USSR take over the rest. No enemies to worry about!
- NeedMoreTea 7y agoWell they conspicuously didn't until Pearl Harbor.
- flyinglizard 7y agoSaying that radical Islam would embrace USA’s existence without its support of Israel is delusional. USA stands against everything they believe in. It just reeks of appeasement.
- partialrecall 7y agoI thought this "they hate us for our freedoms" line of reasoning went out of style 15+ years ago.
- TKWasRight 7y agoIt's still used by those that want to deflect away from the very odd and disadvantageous relationship we have with Israel...
- AnimalMuppet 7y agoMaybe it went out of style, but it's not entirely wrong...
- cynoclast 7y agoWell they don't hate us "because of our freedoms" they hate us because we meddle in and around the countries, overthrow their governments and kill their citizens.
- nickik 7y agoYou do realise that radical Islamist don't actually control any of the countries around Israel right? Or pretty much any country at all. If anything US is allies with some worst ones in terms of supporting radical extremism. But don't let facts get in the way of your propaganda.
- AnimalMuppet 7y agoThere was a brief period when the Muslim Brotherhood controlled Egypt. Hezbullah controls a big chunk of southern Lebanon. Hamas controls Gaza. Maybe the facts are getting in the way of your point a little...
- nickik 7y ago> There was a brief period when the Muslim Brotherhood controlled Egypt. In the thats in the past. However they didn't break the peace agreement with Israel. > Hamas controls Gaza Gaza is not a country. > Hezbullah controls a big chunk of southern Lebanon. True on that but without Israel there Hezbollah would have little reason to oppose the US. At the same time the reality is that Syria is militarly over, Jordan has made peace, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are basically allies, Turkey has no interest in attacking Israel, Egypt is incapable of true forign policy at the moment. So we have basically all major powers, and Hezbullah.
- amitport 7y agoIran. Iran has physical presence in Syria (Besides the Hezbullah proxy in Syria). Gaza is an autonomous neighbor ruled by an Islamic terror organization being a country or not does not change the fact that missles are being launched at Israeli civilians every week. There is still ISIS in Sinai. (And although the Islamic brotherhood lost control of the country, they are not gone) yes. Jordan is quiet. "True on that but without Israel there Hezbollah would have little reason to oppose the US." -You really have no idea how religious extremist work. Hezbullah has something against all non-(their kind of)-muslim "the reality is that Syria is militarly over" -not really. ISIS is pretty much gone there but there is still a lot of fighting and it's not like the winners are the nice guys
- yongjik 7y ago> USA stands against everything they believe in. Is this a euphemism for saying "Many of these people have relatives killed by America or one of its puppet governments"?
- flyinglizard 7y agoAssuming you’re genuinely curious to know and not just echoing empty rhetoric, you may want to read this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/384980/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article... The language Islamic radicals use to refer to the Westerns is often “crusaders”. It’s a conflict rooted in religion, not practicalities or modern time hostilities. But I suggest you read the article, it’d be better for explaining the reality than a thousand argumentative HN posts.
- TKWasRight 7y agoUntil they attacked Pearl Harbor, we weren't involved...the American populace, largely, didn't want any involvement in a European War...
