The only thing DoH gives anybody .. is even more of your private data to a centralized provider with questionable ethics, and the only company more ethically questionable than Google is Palantir. Run your own local resolver and move on with your life.
- growse 7y ago> ... private data to a centralized provider with questionable ethics What, like your ISP?

- ndidi 7y agoNot everybody lives in the US. I trust my ISP. They are cool, and their handling of my data is regulated under the GDPR and other laws. CloudFlare? Not so much.
- growse 7y agoI am also not in the US. However, everywhere I look I see large ISPs with questionable ethics who are centralized providers of DNS. I'm struggling to see why DoH means "is even more of your private data to a centralized provider with questionable ethics", which is what the OP said.
- magashna 7y agoMozilla is rolling this out in the US, where there are few ISPs across the nation.
- throwawaynihil 7y agoRather than putting real effort into this, I'm just going to say that Paul Vixie, the creator of DNS, advocates for using a local resolver (not your ISP's resolver), and DNSSEC. The internet is supposed to be decentralized, not centralized. Cloudflare, Google, and all of these other centralized dns/ntp services are hazardous to our health. I'm sure you're very knowledgable, but if Paul gives DNS advice, listen to him.
- growse 7y ago> Rather than putting real effort into this Ah, you're too busy to make the case. Aren't we all. > DNSSEC. The internet is supposed to be decentralized, not centralized. DNSSEC centralises the DNS system with governments. > Cloudflare, Google, and all of these other centralized dns/ntp services are hazardous to our health. Saying it doesn't make it so. > I'm sure you're very knowledgable, but if Paul gives DNS advice, listen to him. I'm familiar with Paul's view. Given that most people can't or won't run a local resolver, how does it help?
- throwawaynihil 7y agoIf you really trust Cloudflare and Google, I was wondering would you please give me your phone # so that I may send you a link to click on about a fabulous new opportunity with my Nigerian friend? Really kid. https://encrypted-dns.org https://encrypted-dns.org .. setup dns correctly, teach your friends and colleagues to do it. Don't keep giving the keys to the kingdom to dirty advertisers. Google is the bad guy, and Cloudflare is on their way to that realm. All you have to do is watch Prince brag about his $10k/night hotels and count the money he makes off of hosting white supremacists to see that. I know y'all really think that anything worth using should be owned by a couple of companies and monetized, but this isn't one of those cases, or at least shouldn't be.
- growse 7y ago> Really kid. Lol. > https://encrypted-dns.org https://encrypted-dns.org .. setup dns correctly, teach your friends and colleagues to do it Gosh, I had no idea it was this simple. Let me get onto the job of teaching the entire world something immediately! We should also tell all the folks at the IETF and the EFF that we've solved the privacy problem! > Google is the bad guy, and Cloudflare is on their way to that realm Repeating this still doesn't make it so.
- throwawaynihil 7y agoExcellent. Now tell me, what is your financial situation? This property is a prime piece of New York manhattan, bridging New York's best burroughs. It has several rooms, some hidden doors which the kids will love, and you can't beat the commute. You can walk to either Manhattan or Brooklyn in 20 minutes. It even has beach front access and a diving board! Now tell me your financial status and your credit rating. Actually, I'll just ask Google, they already know.
