(Paraphrasing, but the percent of people who can get by on under 6 hours of sleep rounded to a whole percent is 0)

- JohnJamesRambo 7y agoNot disagreeing but doesn’t the second link you posted say five hours? >Based on evidence from over 100,000 studies, the number of people who can survive on 5 hours of sleep or less, without showing any impairment, rounded to a whole number and expressed as a percentage of the population…is 0

- acqq 7y ago> rounded to a whole percent is 0 The order of magnitude fits with the article: "The specific gene that the short-sleeping members of Mr. Johnson’s family carry shows up in about one in every 25,000 people."
- bookofjoe 7y agoWhich equates to some 13,160 such individuals (329,000,000/25,000) just in the U.S.
- mscasts 7y agoI love his book "Why we sleep" and I think most people today should read it. People take pride in sleeping less than they should which is pretty fucked up in my opinion. DHH also have a lot to say about it: https://m.signalvnoise.com/sleep-deprivation-is-not-a-badge-of-honor/ https://m.signalvnoise.com/sleep-deprivation-is-not-a-badge-... https://medium.com/signal-v-noise/microsoft-reboots-war-on-sleep-a90da0396fb5 https://medium.com/signal-v-noise/microsoft-reboots-war-on-s...
- markus_zhang 7y agoNot a pride, but a necessity to compete in this society if you want to do interesting work and if you messed up earlier in life.
- mkane848 7y agonot even messed up,some just don't have the same means of entry or the opportunity
- markus_zhang 7y agoYeah exactly...and taking time away from sleep is the only way because it's the only big chunk of time available.
- snikeris 7y agoI disagree. A well-rested mind is almost categorically different than a 5-hour-a-night mind. It doesn't matter how hard you work if you're unable to have the insight that the thing you're working on doesn't matter or you need to make some other strategic change.
- quaice 7y agoI would love to see some sources for his talk and podcasts. I was really taken aback by some of the claims and data shown.
- magna7 7y agoWhy We Sleep is a fantastic book. Everyone should read it.
