Hence the US strategy of developing local oil extraction (fracking etc.). Reduce dependence on the middle east and thus the power of totalitarian regimes. Too bad EU isn't following suit (to the extent they can).
- whatshisface 7y agoI don't think it's accurate to characterize fracking as a geopolitical strategy. It is being done independently by oil companies who see it as an attractive way to produce oil - not on orders from the state department.
- pintxo 7y agoThe state sets the regulatory framework. Would not be unreasonable to expect fracking to be largely prohibited due to its ecological impact.
