Do Vancouver; nice startup scene (see e.g. http://www.launchpartyhq.com/ http://www.launchpartyhq.com/), AMAZING scenery, and either way only 2.5hrs from Seattle. The downside is that $1200/month here is a little on the low side unless you don't mind living well out of town. I'd say $1500 for a monthly (more if you rent per-week) in downtown.
