1) I would doubt the future of something that does a complex task like that without charging money. The premise is certainly simple, but the execution will no doubt be difficult. 2) Why? you are taking your time and building something valuable... why wouldn't you want to get something back in return? ...Furthermore, since you have the skills to do something difficult like this why wouldn't you apply them to something that could provide you with more money create more value in the world with? Certain causes are certainly non-profit worthy. But this doesn't seem like it would create the most value for the world with a non-profit approach.
