Alternatively, instead of raising the minimum wage in a dumb and opaque way, the state could just raise the minimum wage instead? Why is it better for a local mom and pop grocery store to pay their employees garbage than for Walmart to do it?
- mschuster91 7y agoI'm all for minimum wage, the problem is that cost-of-living is vastly different across states - make a universal US or state wide minimum wage and it will be too low in some areas and too high in others, and a regional minimum wage, while better, will be politicized as hell, plus it creates an incentive for local businesses to bribe or otherwise manipulate politicians to lower the minimum wage. I'm not sure if there is a one-size-fits-all solution.
