In the bay area, there was an express bus line from my town straight into downtown San Francisco. I could work through my whole commute (as I had a seat and a laptop), not worry about traffic or deal with road rage, and was filled with a wide variety of people. If each community added their own similar route, I wouldn't be surprised if rush hour traffic was noticably impacted.
