Hilarious. Hobbyist projects for the win! In general it is helpful not to be completely ignorant of how the state-of-the art in your line of work is done and perhaps ask why it is done this way. Its almost inconceivable to me how it is possible that a company, no matter how small, does all these things so utterly wrong that shit like this is possible. Even as a child, when playing around with Delphi and Turbo Pascal, I made my backups dutifully onto an external drive. I did not use version control because I had no clue what that was (and, arguably anything is better than SVN), but at least I had backups of everything.
