LOL imagine unironically thinking the US is still "one of the most free countries in the world" in 2019.
And yet I thought HN has no appetite for rabid nationalism. Guess I was wrong because an exception seems to apply when it's Americans reveling in their own bizarre delusion and nauseating hypocrisy.
- dang 7y agoPlease don't reply to a bad comment with a worse one. That's exactly what we don't need. The fact that we don't want nationalistic flamewars on this site doesn't mean comments of that nature never appear here. Of course they do. That's why we keep having to say we don't want nationalistic flamewars. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- ssnistfajen 7y agoI keep presenting contrarian opinions because I care about not having HN turn into an echo chamber like many other corners of the Anglophone Internet have become. Flagging and downvoting is not enough. Speaking out is necessary. Somebody has to do it. Flagging the original comment after more than 18+hrs is not meaningful either. The damage has already been done. The crowd is ready to start the next rampant display of nationalism and attack/silence anyone who dares to speak out against it. The only question is, will you be there in time to put a stop to it?
