I wonder if people posting on Medium realize that for many of us the articles are inaccessible ("Sign up for a free Medium account, and you’ll get one more story in your member preview this month"). It seems that people missed the change in Medium's business model and still think that it's a site for posting publicly accessible articles.
- sixhobbits 7y agoMedium is awful and should be boycotted.
- basch 7y agoIt's a shame https://telegra.ph https://telegra.ph doesnt have the ability to save/send yourself an edit link. Being able to only edit your story on the computer you made it on is a big turnoff.
- CydeWeys 7y agoSounds like what that site really needs is the same thing that almost every other major site has -- accounts.
- hnarn 7y agoI'm not entirely sure about this, but isn't the edit ability of Telegraph based on what I believe is a cookie, it seems to be called "tph_uuid" and you can see it if you press F12 in Firefox, go to "Network", reload the page, find the single POST and you can see it in the request headers. Meaning, as long as you don't clear your cache you should be fine, and if you do, maybe you can back it up somewhere.
- k_vi 7y agoYou can use @telegraph on Telegram to save/edit on your account.

- basch 7y agonice. clunky but it works.
- ColinWright 7y agoFor me, the window containing that message has a "close" icon at the top right, and then I can read the article. If you don't have a similar close icon I'd be interested in seeing a screenshot of what you can see. I have no love for Medium, but so far I've been able to read everything, so I'd be interested to see how my experience differs from yours.
- hatmatrix 7y agoI get "Read smarter, not harder. You have one story remaining in your free member preview for this month. Unlock the best of Medium when you upgrade for $5/month." down at the bottom.
- ColinWright 7y agoI don't know what we're doing differently. I always get an annoying pop-up trying to get me to register or to become a member, but there's always a close icon, and I never seem to be blocked from reading. I wonder how our setups differ ...
- mottosso 7y agoWithout JavaScript, they load quickly and without popups or membership requirement on my end.
- inimino 7y agoIf you set up a non-standard browsing environment you can get around it, but it's still a trash experience for the rest of us. I no longer follow Medium links at all.
- munmaek 7y agoAll you need is one plugin, uMatrix, to solve it. Prevent medium from loading cookies and javascript, and you're good. You do need to enable the github gist javascript though to see gists.
- inimino 7y agoI already solved it, by not following the links. I don't need to complicate my life to work around some user-hostile business model.
- bscphil 7y agoImages in the articles don't display for me without JS, do they work for you?
- tedivm 7y agoAfter the backlash from the hard paywall they switched to the soft one- you can dismiss that popup by clicking the X in the top right corner of it.
- knolan 7y agoNot to justify them or anything but as a workaround to this many many similar awful behaviours, Reader mode on Safari is a handy way to ignore all this.
- freetonik 7y agoIt does, but if there are images in the post, Reader mode loads blurry images because medium serves blurry previews until you scroll past the position of the image. It’s quite infuriating.
- tannerc 7y agoTo those replying with "dismiss the popup", that does not seem to be an option for everyone. For example, this is what I see: https://imgur.com/a/04W0om0 https://imgur.com/a/04W0om0
- tekkk 7y agoFor me it helped when I cleared all the site data. But quite annoying nonetheless.
- klintcho 7y agoEven as a member this article is paywalled. Nowadays regardless of the authors intention of keeping the article available or not, the default is paywalled and many people miss it.
- Veedrac 7y agoEww, they made this opt-out now? That might actually convince me to migrate...
- dorfsmay 7y agoIt usually opens fine in incognito mode.

- blondin 7y agosame. Guido is currently writing a series on PEG parsers. but medium won't let me read a single one of these posts. i don't even know what the reasons are. can't be that i reached my free reading quota this fast...
- bscphil 7y agoYeah I thought it was pretty funny that someone on Medium of all places wrote an article called "X Site is Broken". Medium is the running with Yelp and Scribd for site people complain the most about.
