In general, imagine the opposite of US: you have a system where you can apply online for your permanent residence, without the need of a lawyer (I didn't use one), the time to finalize is 6 months to 1 year and during all the process you have a good idea of how long every step is going to take. And a score system where the more skilled you are the faster you get in. All documentation is put online by the government in very clear writing.
