I'd like to point out that ITAR has had a negative impact on the tech world and privacy rights in the past as well. ITAR is the law that restricts the export of encryption, and is what Phil Zimmermann was dealing with during the PGP fiasco. ITAR is also the law that Defense Distributed and similar organizations/individuals are dealing with in distributing 3D models of firearms.
