The Work Diary of Parisa Tabriz, Google’s ‘Security Princess’
- mlthoughts2018 7y agoGreat. Now we can add princess along with ninja, rock star and guru to the type of obnoxious, self-unaware hype titles that embody the brokenness of tech culture.
- tptacek 7y agoYou only had to make it one paragraph into this article to see where that "title" comes from.
- mlthoughts2018 7y agoWhat is your point? I read the whole article. It only became more nauseating. Why do you think more details of the article would run counter to my point?
- tptacek 7y agoI don't know, probably because it directly contradicts the argument you're making that "princess" is a "ninja" title, or that it conveyed any kind of status (other than the empowerment status it later earned for itself through Parisa's work). I guess that's what I was trying to say? That your argument was incoherent and bad?
- mlthoughts2018 7y agoThe article doesn’t contradict my point. It reinforces it. The title connotes severe entitlement culture and has no connection to empowerment or a stream of work of any kind. The attitude of your reply seems toxic and antagonistic.
- thanatropism 7y agoA career goal is to get the job title "Mutant".
- DaniloDias 7y agoYesh. This does not read well.
- dang 7y agoOk, but please don't post unsubstantive comments here.
- catacombs 7y agoWhy did it not read well?
- DaniloDias 7y agoIt is a person approaching 40 describing their workday with the same gravity that a 13 year old describes their day. I know Parisa is working on hard problems that lack easy answers. This article makes it seem like everything is breezy and she just has lots of conversations. Im kinda shocked that she or or comms team approved of this.
- hooloovoo_zoo 7y agoAn odd article. The takeaway between all the fluff is that Parisa spends 12 hours a day working for Google and half her meals are cereal?
- ryacko 7y agoIn rural America, some families share an entire email account. Poor communal cultures can be like that. The bizarre thing about this piece is that usually the focus isn’t on the person, but on the impact they have through their job? This seems like the focus is on how the job impacts her.
- dvfjsdhgfv 7y agoParisa is an extremely competent expert in her field, but this article lacks substance. Of course the target is a general reader, but frankly, there are so many interesting things about her and her work one could write a completely different article and it would make a great reading also for not-technical readers.
