    Checklists are actually a very good thing in aviation. You don't want to have huge variability between what each pilot should be doing.

      I agree. I use them. They're like a formal procedure.

  having done software for scheduling air crew onto planes, one of the biggest factors for them are the various aviation authorities rules / airport certifications etc. That shapes a lot of their lives, but airlines do have their own methods for trying to get the "best" out of their staff.
