- lacker 7y agoKind of like the decline of Craigslist. It never really died out, but it also never really updated itself for the mobile era. In the end it didn't have the cultural impact that it could have.
- zwieback 7y agoI didn't know Craigslist declined - what replaced it?
- joshlemer 7y agoKijiji? Maybe that's just in Canada
- Topgamer7 7y agoI know in Vancouver Craigslist is still more popular
- correct_horse 7y agoI don't think that Craigslist declined exactly, but nextdoor and facebook marketplace took a chunk of the local used market.
- FussyZeus 7y agoThe people who still use Craigslist are the ones you want, though. Facebook marketplace is packed full of idiots in my experience. People who don't show up to meet, people who put out ridiculously low offers for things, people who need their hands held through every step of a transaction. Craigslist generates a lot less replies, that's certain. But at least the replies have a decent chance of going somewhere useful.
- dooglius 7y agoFOSTA/SESTA was a big hit to Craigslist as well.
- Robotbeat 7y agoBut I love that Craigslist didn't update. I hate the new mobile interfaces... The crisp UI of the 1990s without flash (or JS or HTML5) everywhere[1]... ...maybe that means I'm old. So you're probably right. [1]Craigslist definitely uses modern web design now, but maintains the aesthetic of 1990s pages.
- nix0n 7y agoCraigslist works great on mobile Firefox.
- jimmaswell 7y agoI'm disappointed that Craigslist charges people to post certain ads now. Seems all the more likely a competitor will outdo them at this point just on fronts like that - people would rather see ads than pay money. Interface is fine to me.
- c22 7y agoPretty sure craigslist serves a mobile site. Search results are formatted to fit my mobile screen and I can "swipe" left or right through the photos.
- bdcravens 7y agoCraiglist's traffic didn't decline because it wasn't updated to have 50,000 dependencies and a pretty UI, it declined because of FOSTA.
- tus88 7y agoGoogle: hold my beer.
- Merrill 7y agoIt's unclear why lawyers still consider fax signatures to be valid. There are no security features in fax to support that claim.
- jdsully 7y agoThere is something better than security features: Case Law. Fax signatures are acceptable because judges have consistently ruled that they are. Sure a judge might agree that your emailed signature is also acceptable. But do you want to be the one to take the risk? Most places now accept e-signatures these days. But there was a time when it was unknown how a judge would rule if one was in question.
