From what I understand cancer grows based on what it feeds on. It can eat sugar, hormones, and maybe other stuff. Some types of cancer can be killed by simply removing it's source of food.
I've had a lot of friends/relatives with cancer lately. Most recently I had a friend diagnosed with breast cancer and the treatment was simply to reduce the amount of estrogen in her system. She's doing well. They've done some preventative radiation but other than that not much of anything else.
- SN76477 7y agoA lot of psuedo medicine talks about eliminating sugar to kill cancer. I always felt that they were on the right track somehow. Thanks for the tidbit

- agumonkey 7y agoA med student on reddit was part of a research team on various strategies around WH. He said something in the lines of "cancer has a few layered tricks in its bag to stay alive even when starved, and these tricks make cancerous cells the last to die if you starve a population of healthy/sick cells" Made me realize how odd cancer was.. how oddly efficient it is in its chaos.

- agumonkey 7y agoI may try to dig but it was a few years ago and I have no precise recollection of which sub nor which user answered me. Unless you know a quick tool to fetch my comment history so I can grep it.
- coding123 7y agoThe non-mainstream heath community has been talking about sugar reduction for about 25 years. Interesting that the mainstream isn't being called psuedo medicine.
- snazz 7y agoYou have to be diligent about what you believe regardless of the reputation of your sources. There’s a lot of sketchy pseudoscience in the non-mainstream as well as the mainstream.
- coldtea 7y agoSome pseudo-medicine is medicine without industry funding. And a lot of medicine is pseudo-medicine with industry funding.
- snowwrestler 7y agoOne of the defining characteristics of a cancerous mass is that it grows faster than the healthy tissues around it. The only way it can do that is by stealing nutrients that would otherwise have gone to nourish those health tissues. Cancer is very good at getting food from the body. That's why it can grow so well, and that's why many cancer patients lose weight as their cancer advances. It's really not possible to simply remove a cancer's source of food... not without killing the patient. Cancer's source of food is the patient's source of food, and if that is not available, the patient themselves becomes cancer's source of food. Like any other tissues, cancers may respond to hormones, and in some cases hormones can be used to affect a cancer's growth. Hormones are not "food," but chemicals that affect the operations of cells. Radiation is never preventative; it is a targeted therapy for killing cancer cells. They only give it to people who have cancer and really need it. I would think of it as an integral and important part of your friend's treatment.
