Wikipedia joins Brave "Protection Scheme" you mean.
- admax88q 7y agoIt could only be considered a protection scheme if you were already relying on ads which Brave blocked. Wikipedia does not run ads.
- RandomBacon 7y ago> Wikipedia does not run ads. Most other websites do. Replacing their ads and running different ads to make money with is unethical. Toolbars in the early 2000s that did that were considered malware.
- lern_too_spel 7y agoNot even that. Wikipedia doesn't show ads, so this announcement isn't saying that Wikipedia will automatically get BATs from Brave using visitors. It's saying Wikipedia has a verified BAT wallet that a tiny fraction of users of a browser with almost no users can donate their worthless tokens to. I'd be surprised if Wikipedia can buy a USB cable with the amount of money they get from this. This is just a worthless PR post from a slimy company.
- ashleshbiradar 7y agowell brave has like 6 million users as of now, so its not "almost no users"
