Coincidentally, I just started re-reading it last week. It's quite a fun book :)
- dagurp 7y agoIt might become a TV show https://www.slashfilm.com/masters-of-doom-series/ https://www.slashfilm.com/masters-of-doom-series/
- lpellis 7y agoVery fun book indeed, the audiobook is also very good. (narrated by Wil Wheaton) https://www.audible.com/pd/Masters-of-Doom-Audiobook/B008K8BQG6 https://www.audible.com/pd/Masters-of-Doom-Audiobook/B008K8B...
- panpanna 7y agoI find Will Wheaton's audiobook narration very annoying. Stopped reading Red Shirts because of his childish voice acting.
- lpellis 7y agoI can definitely see him becoming annoying for some contexts, but for this book I found his exciting enthusiasm perfect, reminded me of that early university/student energy.
- Mountain_Skies 7y agoHe was very good at narrating his autobiography. Also liked his reading of Ready Player One but other than those two books, he does tend to be a bad choice for narration. Comparing the Amber Benson reading of Lock In to the Wheaton reading makes this even more obvious.
- tus88 7y agoReading it now! I also recommend reading his .plan files, archive on github.
- AlchemistCamp 7y agoReading that book permanently raised my internal bar for what it means to be a disciplined programmer. The work ethic and what it created was breathtaking.
- that_jojo 7y agoI think it probably helps when you're not only good at what you're doing, but also are super into the project. My performance is abysmal at my day job because I really can't bring myself to be interested in the subject at hand. And yet I'll regularly work until the wee hours in the morning on personal projects without even realizing what time it is.
- Insanity 7y agoI get that occasionally at work as well - but I find the main hindrance at work to be the distractions of the open office..
