If people lose trust in Amazon that would undermine their entire business model. There is a very strong incentive for Amazon to police their market. Amazon does have a list of brands that third parties are not allowed to sell (because of counterfeit issues) -- only the authorized, prescribed retailer is allowed to sell it. There are still blatant frauds that occur, though, that Amazon really has to answer for. These products are still on Amazon!
