I got roasted for this article last week, but I'll post it here because its completely relevant. I think the entire dev hiring process is broken. Not because I had a hard time, I think I had a totally normal (and slightly easy, because was okay where I was while looking) time and ended up getting a large raise and ending up somewhere I love...but I've been on the hiring side as well and I think hiring signals are weak and cargo culting is rampant.
