I have never been asked an interview question where I am expected to sanitize noisy real world input, report meaningful errors to the user, or create a few classes that interact in a SOLID way. (I have been asked what SOLID stands for.) Maybe these questions are asked but unfortunately I haven't come across them.
I have been asked many times how to solve crazy, weird problems in what is the equivalent of a couple of functions.
The first kind of test, which I have not been given, is highly relevant to my daily job.
The second kind of test, which is administered in every single interview, is relevant maybe 1% of the time in my job.
I try to keep this in mind when I am on the hiring side of the table.
