I believe that is not true.

- klyrs 7y agoWhat's true is that they can and have imprisoned people. What's not true is that the basement features a jail cell.
- dsl 7y agoAny such order would fall to the Sargent at Arms of the House. The Sgt. at Arms sits on the board of the US Capitol Police (USCP) and has the authority to request mutual aid from the USCP chief of police. The USCP does arrest individuals on a semi-frequent basis and places them in holding cells at its headquarters building on D Street Northeast. They can also be held at the DC Department of Corrections' Central Detention Facility on D Street Southeast under USCP authority, just as if they were arrested by any other law enforcement agency in DC. tl;dr: The House has approximately 2,200 officers and at least a hundred beds at its disposal.
