I'm using Rust full time for a lot of web dev. Using web frameworks and http clients hasn't been too painful, but asyncio web dev gets hairy because of the rules and syntax governing futures 0.1. Database dev using rust-postgres and extending it using its ToSql/FromSql traits has been very straightforward. Reading through the underlying source of these web frameworks / clients does involve medium/high difficulty, to varying degrees. Excessive use of generics ought to be curtailed, and it does but that seems to happen further down the pipeline as refactoring for readability plays a more important role. I can empathize with the OP, who has struggled to understand code written by others. It's not an issue just for Rust, though. Excessive use of object inheritance does no one any favors -- pick any language that features it and you'll find inheritance hell. Go also seems to have its own category of readability issues that people aren't being forthright about.
