There definitely is a problem with some libraries using so many abstractions (traits) you have no idea how to use the thing. I however do find writing rust to be quite enjoyable. But I have so far entirely avoided the futures ecosystem and consider it a very good decision. One needs to have a very critical eye on what libraries to use
