Of course, it would not scale, it would only be an incentive to bring more passangers to trains in the beginning. Well, as a tech enthusiast, I really doubt the "return to live as in middle ages" will work to solve anything, and that is not necessary. Technological solutions exist, and we will be able to travel without destroying for future generations, high speed trains are such a solution.
