Apache HTTP Server widens market-share lead over Microsoft IIS
- chrisaycock 16y agoLatest market share stats: Apache - 59.4% Microsoft - 22.2% Nginx - 7.0% Google web server (mostly Blogger) - 5.9% Lighttpd - 0.5%
- michaelbuckbee 16y agoI'm actually somewhat mystified that the number of IIS instances is that high.
- chrisaycock 16y agoIn addition to Microsoft's own sites, there are hosting services like GoDaddy that use IIS across many of their customers' sites.
- mburns 16y agoIIS 7 isn't entirely evil software. They've improved it a lot over the years.
- tildeslash 16y agoWhat' driving the growth? The ease of deploying virtual applications (e.g. Turnkey Linux) to services like EC2?
- kogir 16y agoWe've noticed that even with fewer servers we can get better performance on the same load after migrating to IIS 7.5 from IIS 6.
- huxley 16y agoI'd like to be rooting for Apache but practically speaking I'm now using lighter-weight webservers (with nginx or varnish as a front-proxy). Using Apache taught me a lot, but I expect that by next year I probably will have only one Apache server (the one built-in to MacOS X).
