I used to think so too about women usually being more open emotionally, but I also think that society frowns more upon men expressing "male" emotions. Whereas a woman may cry, talk and hug, I think a lot of men would react with aggression, both to rid themselves of the negative feeling and to feel powerful, capable and in charge again. For the same negative feeling, I think a lot of men would not appreciate to be held and comforted because it would make them feel small and incapable; somebody worthy of pity. But society has not been very tolerant of the ways men express their emotions in recent decennia, instead of trying to find more useful and constructive ways for men to express emotions aligned with their instincts other than "getting in touch with one's female side". We've now got the false dilemma of "crying like a woman" or emotional repression instead of trying to find better outlets for "male" feelings. So men are now allowed to cry, but is that really what they want, what helps them?
