- Causality1 7y agoMight be a victim of A/B testing. The accurate headline would be "three black beekeepers are transforming Detroit's empty lots" but "black beekeepers are transforming Detroits empty lots" implies the existence of a new social movement with many members, which of course is more interesting and drives clickthroughs and hence ad revenue. That said, Detroit Hives is a really cool team who deserve exactly none of the blame for Huffpost's bad journalism.
- inetknght 7y agoWhy "black beekeepers" instead of "three beekepers"?
- Causality1 7y agoThe specific reason is that it's part of a series entitled "Black Voices". The general reason is that Huffpost fetishizes people of color in order to appeal to their target audience.
- ikeyany 7y agoAre you not familiar with the Huffington Post?
- onetimemanytime 7y agoto get clicks probably. As if beekeeping is not on the "what black people can or do do" list...
- rhinoceraptor 7y agoDetroit is 83% black.
- OJFord 7y agoMaking it even less relevant, surely?
- rhinoceraptor 7y agoI don't think so, it means this isn't just gentrification.
- userbinator 7y agoFor a second, I thought it was referring to the colour of the bees. Black bees certainly exist: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xylocopa_virginica https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xylocopa_virginica
