That massive flood of Chinese tourists is a one time thing. China is prosperous enough that middle class mainland CHinese can now go on tours of the world just for recreation. There was a first wave of Americans doing that a few decades ago, and they acted just as this wave is acting now. The succeeding waves of Americans was different. Right now, Boston gets Chinese tour groups who are visiting just to enjoy cleaner air than they have at home. So it's true that they're not engaging with us locals at all. But when they go back, they'll be part of the pressure to clean China's air.
