That doesn't work on first principles with the ballistic equation with the current population. Just go to http://what-if.xkcd.com http://what-if.xkcd.com and do some of the type of back of envelope math of the energy requirements. He might actually have that specific example debunked on one of them.
No technological development will change the shape of Earth's gravity well or e=mc^2.
