A geomagnetic storm is not an EMP. They are completely different phenomena.
A geomagnetic storm is a very long duration, low frequency event that causes movement in the magnetic field of the earth. This can induce a voltage on large conductive structures notably very large metal objects, but primarily on long distance electrical lines such as telegraph (in 1859), or electrical transmission lines today.
An EMP is an incredibly high-frequency, short-duration event in which a very intense electric field is generated which can affect mostly very small electrical devices such as integrated circuits, etc.
They aren't even vaguely similar.
