Yes, the badge of honor I mentioned earlier. Still disappointing. You'd think we'd be better than this, by now.

- krapp 7y agoTwo steps forward, one step back, unfortunately. It's difficult to make progress when rape culture is a billion dollar industry and we're in the midst of an anti-progressive social backlash. At least every now and then a Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein gets raked over the coals. Maybe it's simply due to the existence of social media and an actual positive effect of "outrage culture" but a few decades ago such people would have been all but untouchable.
- LifeLiverTransp 7y ago>Rape culture Rape culture was the inversion of choice. Quite literaly as in- a hunter/warrior who is near suicidal and risk taking, that he might not be around tomorrow, forces upon all potential mates the choice of now or never. A road some potential mates took (and still take today, though it it is no longer tolerated), to keep the high risk-high reward nature of group outliers going. Now rape, was the ultimate gesture in this context- do it and the individual will become either forced to integrate and settle into society (as still seen today in many "honor"-cultures) or will be austracized, and forced into the "explorer/scout" role for his group. A state out of which only the discovery of large opportunity or death could liberate the culprit. I do not see this in modern culture. Surely there are still reckless one-night stands with percieved high risk takers (Band Groupies come to mind). But there is no risky endavour and "outside" to which a lone-wulf could be condemned (the equivalent today would be to shoot him/her one way into space). The by you described harem effect around the rich and powerfull has near nothing to do with rape culture. These people are not really risc-searching, as in engaging en mass in activitys that are potentially lethal. A more detailed explenation of your statement would be nice.
