Right, Khronos intends for SYCL on GPUs to be backed by OpenCL.
Vulkan compute and OpenCL are not entirely compatible (both are backed by SPIR-V (but different flavors of it.))
Khronos has chosen to maintain OpenCL (and OpenCL-next) separate from Vulkan.
