I honestly wonder if this is satire. I feel like this is one of those situations where the reason the writer doesn't like it is solely that he doesn't understand the true use case and reasoning behind moving off-prem. It isn't just the cost of servers, it's the fact that AWS or Azure gives you a variety of simple ways to configure and integrate services, without paying an entire team of ops people for putting servers in racks. It's more efficient and reduces overhead, which saves the kind of company that spends 6 figures on AWS costs a huge sum of money too.
