Electric motors need bearings, but the bearings need a minuscule amount of oil compared to an internal combustion engine. Boats have something called a "packing box" which is a seal around the propeller shaft so that water doesn't leak into the boat. Traditionally they use hemp fibers and tallow, nowadays PTFE or similar is a popular alternative.
