No, not literally. There are a surprising number of cars on the road that are set up for events like autocross and such that have roll cages, etc. I've often seen these kinds of setups on small cars like Mazda Miatas. But, the point is, it's not just for race cars/track-only cars. Maybe you meant something other than "literally" but in case you didn't wanted to clarify that this is a relatively common thing in many circles.

- freehunter 7y agoI absolutely meant "literally". It's also a "relatively common thing" in "many circles" for people to modify their cars to have tea kettles installed in the dashboard but since no car ships from the factory like that it's insignificant enough to be completely discounted. Yes, you can modify a stock car until it becomes a race car and then also drive that car on the road. But since no car ships from the factory like that it's insignificant enough to be completely discounted.
- grepthisab 7y agoah, this is one of those moving the goalposts things people talk about. You say one thing, someone comments on it, and suddenly you meant something much more restrictive. I don't see this one in the wild on HN that often.
- whenchamenia 7y agoYou can order more than a few sports cars with roll cages from the factory. The distinction between road car and race car are blinkers, vin and tags. While you aren't likely to win Le Mons in your daily driver anymore, you sure can drive most race cars on the street.
