Thanks. I just found that macports has badblocks in the e2fsprogs package. I'm using it right now to scan a 3TB disk I had in a RAID6 array that has had 2 errors in the last 4 years. I'm currently using it as a cold standby, and this will give me more confidence in it! EDIT: the RAID6 array is not on macOS, but Linux. I have a TB2 external enclosure that allows me to easily insert drives on my mac. Hopefully the macOS version is as good as the Linux version.
