"Well, without jokes about Thunderdome..."
Anyone care to explain?
- rosser 7y agoOne of the plot elements of the movie Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome was a group of orphans, is my guess. EDIT: Nope, or only indirectly. See: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20595137 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20595137
- mathgenius 7y agoPossibly a reference to the Mad Max movie...
- dimoprhus 7y agoJiri Kosina wrote when he became the floppy maintainer in 2012: "I have fought the current maintainer to the death in the Thunderdome" https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/8206f664bfd7121e79f3b3fbf967953dbed78d7f https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/8206f664bfd7121e79f... Denis Efremov sent the security patches to floppy driver. Jiri orphaned the driver: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/47d6a7607443ea43dbc4d0f371bf773540a8f8f4 https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/47d6a7607443ea43dbc... And now Denis wants to maintain the floppy driver... Linus https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/5/16/370 https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/5/16/370: "You'll have to fight the current maintainer to the death in the Thunderdome. What's that, you say?"
- bitwize 7y agoAnd this is why the kernel community is toxic. Linus was literally advocating violence -- deadly violence at that!
- amiga-workbench 7y agoIs Poe's law currently in effect?
- bitwize 7y agoYeah, that's a jab at Sage Sharp, who accused Linus on LKML of "advocating violence" when he said something like "Greg [Kroah-Hartman] is a giant and might squish you".
