In the HBO show Chernobyl one of the engineers talks about an area the size of Europe being rendered uninhabitable if things went wrong. That's a real quote taken from a book about people's reminiscences of the disaster and some Soviet engineer probably did say that at some point. But he was either exaggerating for effect or wrong.
- tokai 7y agoThe creators knowingly misrepresented the disaster, to have a more exciting show. Do you remember what the book is called?
- Symmetry 7y agoVoices from Chernobyl. Personally I thought the series was rather well done all things considered and gave a good account of the human and technical factors that went into the disaster. A lot of people were compressed into a few composite characters but that's the reality of making television. I feel like I can blame the show a bit for exaggerating the danger of a steam explosion because of cherry-picking quotes. But I don't really see anything else worth complaining about.
