Just curious about the number. I don’t know if there is a translation problem, but “2 million people” sounds not exactly the same as “2 million individuals” since some of them might be counted twice or more. It would be illuminating to know the real number of individuals ever participated.

That was 2 million on a single day. It's possible more have participated in one or more protests without being counted on that day.
