Got a lot of calls today about phones being down, went to down detector and our phone provider (TDS) had a spike at around 10 AM, Verizon also had a spike. Could this solar activity have caused this?
- jcims 7y agoAnecdote #1 - DSL went down for me at about the same time...local loop is fine, issue appears to be downstream somewhere.
- olivermarks 7y agoI think if there is any coronal mass ejection it will arrive going past earth on the 31st or the 1st. There are zero sunspots. Could be good for aurora viewing
- sgt101 7y agoI think that you would see a lot of fun and games in the electrical network if space weather were bad enough to kick over local loop dsl. I'd have bought into the idea of national scale copper transmission being susceptible, but now that's all long gone and just glass so we're talking a few km of fairly thin and mostly buried conductors. Power transmission - that's a different thing!
- kylek 7y agoI don't particularly like linking this site[0] anymore (very tinfoil-hatty community), but there is a ton of great info here. Changes on the solar wind graph are a great indicator that we're in the stream. Also the enlil spiral gif is pretty AND informative. [0] https://spaceweathernews.com/ https://spaceweathernews.com/
- jgalvez 7y agoThe man behind Suspicious0bservers is definitely not tinfoil-hatty. The YT Suspicious0bservers channel is the most skeptical and informative science news source I've ever seen. Love it.
