Will Librem 5 provide a way to turn off SMT?
EDIT
It looks like Librem5 has a serial port [1] so you can build PureOS and flash your phone with a custom build. In that case you can configure the kernel and turn off SMT if desired. Nice :-)

- dan1234 7y agoI assuming SMT mean Surface Mount Technology, in this context? It would be nice if people expanded their TLAs once in a while!
- dustfinger 7y agoI was referring to Symmetric Multi-Processing kernel support. Since the Librem 5 has a serial port via usb, the kernel can be easily customized to suit an individual's needs. If you mess up you can just flash the last known good. It is hacker friendly :-)
- dan1234 7y agoOk, wouldn’t that be SMP, rather than SMT?

- dustfinger 7y agoThat's it! Thanks for correcting me :-)
- dustfinger 7y agoSorry, it is actually called Simultaneous multithreading (SMT).
- dustfinger 7y agoActually, now I am all spun around. The kenel configuration I was thinking of is indeed SMP [1] or Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) [1] https://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/linux_kernel/kernel_configuration/re146.html https://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/linux_kernel/kernel_... I will correct my typo above and expand the TLA (I can't edit my original post. Sorry for the confusion)
- Narishma 7y agoWhy would you want to turn it off?
