I've worked in a remote location with a small group of people. I found that small annoyances and minor personality traits both become greatly amplified. In this situation, we didn't have the benefit of a shared mission or sense of purpose. It was just a job, and a more or less random group. The one thing we had in common was that we were all in a place in life where we were willing to take a job in the middle of nowhere for months at a time. Some people were there for an adventure, some for money, and some to get away from their problems. It turns out, their problems followed them.
