This is why I think that in addition to swift action to curtail emissions, we need strong international organisations for discourse, crisis management and mutual aid. If we walk into a new age of mass migrations and instability with the currently popular mindset of nationalist separatism, I don't see how we'll be able to avoid another world war. What will happen between India and Pakistan, for example? These are both nuclear powers.
- johnchristopher 7y agoCould it be either Russia or the US have contingency plans regarding those countries ? Like... nuke them now or send them a suicidal elite special forces mission to take out the top and assume command in the name of peace keeping ?
- black_puppydog 7y agoDoesn't get more "typical US brute force approach" than that, eh? Imagine what would happen if India or Pakistan (a muslim country on top of everything else!) did that to the US. How do you think "assuming command" would go down there?
- johnchristopher 7y agoI am not from the US though and I don't live there. The question is still valid though: are we thinking things through and what are our leader's intentions in case something like that happens and are they thinking about how to prevent it in the first place ? Ten years ago we talked about how the India/Pakistan nuclear arsenal could end up in the hands of Al-Qaeda. What were the plans and which one was put in motion (if any) ?
- carapace 7y agoLike the UN? (Sorry for the snark.)
