There have been some research studies focused on exogenous estrogen mimicking chemicals (Xenoestrogen). Some plastics exhibit these affects. "BPA (Bisphenol A) is the monomer used to manufacture polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins used as a lining in most food and beverage cans.
