Growing up in the 1970s and reading lots of sci-fi, I expected that by my current age, I would be on an interstellar colony ship - or at least living on one of Jupiter's moons. I also thought the human race was sure to give up on traditional religious taboos and stop wasting lives and resources on war. None of that happened, but as a consolation prize, modern smartphones and the internet are still pretty amazing and the social changes they are bringing about have obviously only just gotten started.
