My understanding of Iran’s situation is this. They depend on Oil exports. The US is aggressively restricting their ability to export oil and demanding that they cut back on nuclear. But they’re aware that without nuclear the threat of forced US regime change is kind of high based on precedent. So they need to play ball, all the while their economy tanks. It seems like the US has put them in a place where their government must sacrifice the livelihood of their people to maintain power. Trying to write that as neutrally as I can. But I don’t understand what they hope to gain from becoming a militaristic enemy of the west. That seems like a good way to guarantee they never get their oil economy going again.
